I'm Okwudili Rex-Franklin obinna has been greatly challenged, changed and influence by this great institution. I left my hometown enugu On 7th of October 2021 and was admitted to this great institution on the 8th of October Meeting with the MD, the instructors the I.T departments the accountant cleaners they are all just amazing soul. Coming here(gmyt fashion academy) with a little knowledge of sewing caftan with free hand but I got new experience on street wears, suit and more knowledge of kaftan with proper finishing. when it comes to fabric week gmyt has really impacted a lot in my life through the fabric week project, the aso-ebi project the bridal project suit wow suit really dealt with me i almost gave up but due to the amazing facilitator this great institution has I was able to face my fears and expand my knowledge. My name is Mezie-Akabudu kamsy. I started my journey as a novice in Gmyt fashion Academy but I am proud to say that I’m leaving as a beginner. By beginner I mean I can face certain designs that come my way unlike when I knew nothing. The journey in Gmyt has thought me a lot of life lessons which I would love to share. It thought me how to be responsible, how to not procrastinate because procrastination kills opportunities. Gmyt thought me how to acknowledge my designs and show it off with pride. During every fabric week in Gmyt I tried my best to give it my all without letting anyone look down on me. Gmyt thought me to prove people’s negative thought about me wrong. You may not know this but there has always been a story and a push behind my fabric week creations. My stay in Gmyt has been full of good and sad moments. I remember when I fist came to Gmyt while learning components of skirt I got stuck when it came to the sewing process of zip it was very frustrating, I cried a lot but I didn’t give up eventually when I learnt the zip the told me I could move upstairs but I said no, that I want to sew it all again to make sure that I finally got it and I got it all when I tried again. I spent a long time on it but I was happy to have learnt it regardless. I also had that same problem while sewing my basic bodice I sewing my basic bodice 4 times, it seriously held me back but what good is moving forward without learning to know and get it right. So, I would like to use this opportunity to thank Gmyt fashion academy for not letting me give up and not giving up on fellow students like me who aren’t fast learners.Now, I can strongly say that those times spent taking my time to learn has built confidence and has strongly improved my sewing skills.Most times when I wasn’t able to make it to school on time due to certain reasons I made sure I didn’t miss out, I met my fellow classmates to teach me what I missed then I would go directly to the teacher to check if I did it right. Gmyt thought me to never slack behind no matter the situation, it thought me to always be up to date because lagging behind can slow you down. Fashion is broad and I know that I still have a long way to go but with this great knowledge from Gmyt I know that whatever I try to learn would not be of a problem to me . MY JOURNEY SO FAR AT GMYT It has really been an experience for me this past few months. Being here has taught me how not to limit myself when it comes to this fashion business. My name is Elisha Comfort Oluwadamilola, a 25 year old Nigerian. I am a committed and free spirited young lady with so much energy and passion for what I love. I am determined and love to experience different cultures. Fashion is the area of activity that involves styles of clothing and appearance, I see fashion as an expression of one's self and lifestyle. My fashion journey started when I applied at GMYT fashion academy during the second half of 2020. From childhood I had a passion for fashion, styling and to know about other countries and cultures, but With the help of GMYT fashion academy I was able to expand my knowledge and fashion creativity as a fashion designer. I had been following GMYT FASHION ACADEMY for months and just admiring, basically wondering when I’d have an opportunity to be part of the academy. THE JOURNEY SO FAR WITH GMYT FASHION ACADEMY All through my months of learning at the GMYT FASHION ACADEMY was nothing short of amazing. At the academy we were thought to “Express our creative sides” not letting doubts restrict our creativity. We were taught how to take measurements, pattern drafting, how to use the machines and how to sew and I loved and enjoyed every bit of it. I also have a good relationship with my instructors so to them I say “THANK YOU” for teaching me. To the Director I say Thank you for creating such a platform. To my classmates I love and would miss you all. The one thing I now know for sure is that I have found a new family in GMYT FASHION ACADEMY. WHATS NEXT FOR US AS A BRAND? I think we already started that chapter. We now have a work space in a good environment in Lekki, we have tailors and beaders and we are already looking to get a bigger space especially now that we growing. we see our brand as a way for creating job opportunity in Nigeria, as we all know how bad the economy has been. We also intend on getting fabric suppliers outside the country and also move the brand international with our outstanding creations in terms of designs. The brand is also looking to collaborate with other designers to also create something unique. This is what’s next but many more to come.

Have learnt so much in GMYT , most especially the need to be creative, have been able to be creative both in pattern drafting and fashion illustration. What's next for me is to create more awareness about my fashion brand Debkayz, people need to see Debkayz designs. Like I mentioned in my business plan , Debkayz is a fashion brand that deals on both ready to wear and bespoke, but would focus more on male ready to wear e.g Suits, pants, vintage shirts and shorts, customized shirts etc.

I came to GMYT fashion academy as a complete novice. I had little idea about fashion world. I remembered when I resumed, the school’s monthly fabric week was in few days. I had no idea about how to thread a machine let alone operate it 😥. I had to sew a whole skirt with hand needle( not the type that give up). On the day of the showcase I saw a lot of beautiful outfits made by other student and that really give me a push, it opened my eyes to the purpose of being in the school, it made me embrace whatever challenge I might encounter during my course. I am the creative director of Sassyfashionhouse a brand which has been in existence since July, 2014. My job description entails coming up with new designs for the ready to wear collections and tailoring it for specific clients.
